Malaysia is a land of about 30 million
people that sits in Southeast Asia. It’s definitely one of the most
interesting spots in Asia to visit as it’s made up of 13 states along
with three territories. The largest and most popular city is the
capital of Kuala Lumpur, which mixes the modern elements of a
cosmopolitan city with the ancient customs of the country. A fine
example of this is the world-famous Petronas Towers, which were once
the tallest buildings in the world. The
land itself is divided into two regions by the South China Sea. These
are known as Malaysian Borneo, also called East Malaysia, and
Peninsular Malaysia. The country borders Indonesia, Brunei, and
Thailand. If you’re going to visit, things can get pretty warm with
its tropical climate and the country sits pretty close to the equator.
When visiting, you’ll notice some British influences as the country
was a British colony until gaining independence in 1957. In fact, the
western region of Malaysia was made up of a number of separate
kingdoms which were known as British Malaya up until 1946. In the
latter part of the 20th century, the nation went through an economic
boom and developed pretty quickly. The
country’s history goes back about 40,000 years, so it’s quite rich and
storied. This has led to some interesting architecture and monuments
throughout the years. The location led it to become a major
international shipping route and the country depends on trade to help
support the economy. The scenery can be
gorgeous in many parts of the land as there’s a fine mixture of
beaches, coastal plains, forested hills and mountains, and
rainforests. There’s also a lot of colorful and interesting wildlife
there as well as some beautiful national parks. Malaysia’s pretty rich
when it comes to natural resources, agriculture, and forestry.

gradually rising each year. Some of the largest and most popular
cities there are Subang Jaya, Klang, Ipoh, Kuching, Shah Alam, Tebrau,
and Johor Bahru. These are ideal places to go shopping, see the sites
and taste the food. Alcohol can be bought in most licensed
establishments, but you might find a couple of regions where it’s
banned. There are quite a few ethnic groups
that make up the population, such as Tamil, Chinese, and Indian. This
makes for a very interesting cross section of cultures, which can be
evidenced in the religions, arts, and cuisine of Malaysia. Many
different languages are spoken, but Malay is the official one. A lot
of the people speak English, so you shouldn’t be completely lost if
that’s your mother tongue. The variety of
religions practiced also makes for an interesting mix as these include
Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, and Hinduism as well as traditional and
ancient Chinese religions. The multicultural society that the country
exhibits makes it the fascinating place that is it as you can sample
sections of different lifestyles throughout the land.
Malaysia is one of the worlds’ best
examples of the combination of a modern country and developing nation
and is an exciting nation to visit any time of the year. |
